31 August 1845 - 14 December 1929

From the Wayland Register, 19 December 1929

Eugene B. Snyder, Civil War veteran and resident of Rochester for the past thirty-six years, died Saturday morning at the age of 84 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frederick J. Bastian of East Avenue, Brighton.

Mr. Snyder was born in Springwater on August 31, 1845, and was engaged in the contracting business with his father until he came to Rochester in 1892. There he entered the employ of Brown and Palmer and was later with the Eastman Kodak company until his retirement from business in 1919.

Mr. Snyder was engaged in the Civil War for two years and was one of the last survivors of the famous Mack’s Battery, which is credited with firing the last shot of the war. He was a member of the I. F. Quinby Post, 409, of Rochester.

Besides his daughter, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Alma Walker of Wayland; two brothers, Aubrey A. of Rockford, Ill. and Stanley E. of Springwater, and two grandsons, Eugene E. and Brewster A. Bastian of Rochester.

The Obituary of Ellen E. Grover Snyder

29 December 1847 - 21 December 1920

From the Springwater Star, 30 December 1920

On December 21st occurred the death of Mrs. Eugene B. Snyder at her home in Rochester. She had been in poor health for over a year but was only confined to the bed about two weeks.

Mrs. Snyder was born in Springwater December 29, 1847 where she resided until about 28 years ago when she went to Rochester to live.

Mrs. Snyder was a woman of fine intellect. When well she was a great reader and interested in the current topics of the day. Her desire in life was to make those happy around her. She had the broad faith of the undying love of the Heavenly Father of His children and will be missed by a large circle of friends.

She leaves her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Frederick Bastian; three sisters, Carrie M. Grover, Mrs. Belle Dunkleberg and Mrs. J. C. Murdie, all of Rochester; also two grandsons, Brewster and Eugene Bastian.

Services were held at her home Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, Rev. Mr. Rose, pastor of the First Universalist church, of which she was a member, officiating, speaking words of comfort to the friends.

Burial was at Springwater, Thursday, a.m.
