Decker, became the bride of Mr. Howard Fitch Barnard, son of the late Solon H. and Mrs. Barnard of Barnard road, Hemlock.

The pastor of the bride, the Rev. Paul O. Madsen, Lima Baptist church, heard the vows at 3 o’clock before trellis work, banked with garden flowers. The wedding march was played by Miss Myrta Chatterton, Lima.

The bride, attractive in white linen, carried a bouquet of apricot hybrid tea roses. Bridesmaid was her close friend, Miss Elsie M. Wendell, teacher of East Avon school, who wore gold colored linen and carried pink briar cliff roses.

Herbert VanVliet of Blackmer road, Richmond, gate keeper of the Lima grange, was best man for the groom.

The bride’s mother was gowned in medium blue sheer, and the groom’s mother in navy blue sheer. Both wore corsages of gardenias.

A wedding dinner was served to thirty-three guests from Rochester, Groveland, West Henrietta, Hemlock and Lima. Ten were seated at the bride’s table with center-piece of three-tier wedding cake. Yellow floral design was carried out with garden flowers.

The Obituary of Jane M. Decker Barnard

14 January 1918 - 4 March 2022

From the Dougherty Funeral Home, Honeoye NY.

Hemlock - At age 104, Jane passed away on March 4, 2022. She is survived by her daughters; Janet (John) Murphy and Mary Barnard (Rich Hargrave); son-in-law William (Sandie) Bacon; grandchildren; Sara (Jon) Bolles, Rachel (David) Brocklebank, Kellogg (Kelli) Murphy, and Shawn (Kate) Murphy; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Ruth Deck; sister-in-law Estelle Barber; many nieces, nephews, and hundreds of former students. She was predeceased by her husband Howard Barnard in 2012; daughter Carol Bacon in 2010; granddaughter-in-law Suzanne Murphy; great granddaughter Cora Murphy; and brothers Frank Decker, John Barber, Leslie Barber, and Kenneth Barber.

Jane was born in Lima, NY on January 14, 1918. She attended Geneseo Normal School to become a teacher and began her career in a one room school house. After marrying Howard, moving to Honeoye, and starting a family, Jane returned to teaching at Hemlock School. She retired from the Livonia Central School as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Jane loved people and was a lifelong “joiner.” She became a member of the Honeoye UCC, Eastern Star, IWBT, Richmond Historical Society and the Hemlock Grange. After years of organizing dinners, she “retired” to selling tickets. Jane volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Drive, was the “face” of the Honeoye Food Pantry, and in later years was a fixture in the museum at the Hemlock Fair. The secret to her long life? Hershey’s Kisses! Our heartfelt thanks to the Bridges of Mendon for their loving care over the past year.

Family and friends may call on Friday, June 10th, from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 8624 Main Street, Honeoye, NY. Jane’s funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 11th, at the Honeoye United Church of Christ, 8758 Main Street, Honeoye, NY.
