Springwater - Samuel Whitlock, one of Springwater’s oldest and most respected citizens, died at his home in this village Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 18th. His death occurred very suddenly although he had been in poor health and very feeble for the past few years.
He was the son of the late Ira and Amelia Stuart Whitlock and was born at Liberty Pole, in this town, Jan. 29, 1838. He taught school in this town and also in Michigan and Missouri for some years, and was school commissioner in this county for two terms.
He also had a wide reputation as a surveyor and did much work in that line. He engaged in the mercantile business here in the year 1873, with his brother-in-law, H. E. Allen, continuing in business until the store burned in 1909.
His wife died Feb. 4, 1916, and since then he had made his home with his nephew, John Capron. He is survived by several nephews and nieces.
The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. W. L. Deighton officiating, and burial was in Mr. Vernon Evergreen cemetery.
