The Death of Wilbur E. Winch

December 1857 - 2 March 1931

The Naples Record, 18 March 1931

Canadice - Wilbur E. Winch, aged 74, a life long resident of Canadice, died at his home, March 2, 1931, after a short illness. For many years he lived on the Winch farm, being the third of that name that had occupied it. Six years ago his health failing, he and sister, Emma, moved to near the Canadice church, where he spent the rest of his life. Early in life he united with the M. E. Church here; always a worker, he held many offices therein and at the time of his death he was recording steward, trustee, Sunday School teacher, and president of the Missionary society. In town affairs he was an interested helper, discharging the duties of the many offices he held with fidelity. Before the duties of the farm claimed his time he was a successful teacher in the public schools. He leaves to mourn his loss three sisters, Emma J, Winch, Mary E. Tibbals, of Canadice, and Mrs. Nettle F. Winch, of Hillsdale, Mich. Two brothers, both younger than he, preceded him to the better land. Funeral services were held from the church at 2 p. m. on Thursday, March 5. Burial was made in the family lot in Canadice cemetery.
