The Obituary of Flora E. Child Metzger

Hemlock - Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Metzger were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in the Hemlock Methodist church with Rev. William Brown, pastor of Livonia Methodist church, officiating.

Mrs. Metzger, whose death occurred Sunday morning, Feb. 4, in the Presbyterian hospital, Newark, N. J., was born Nov. 14, 1896 in Manchester NY and moved to Hemlock NY at an early age. She attended Hemlock grammer school and Livonia High school, going later to Ovid, Michigan, where she was graduated from Ovid High school in 1914 and Upsilanti State college two years later. She taught school first in Michigan and later in New Jersey.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Newark and very active in all church affairs and in the Red Cross. At the time of her death she was president of the Parent Teachers association of East Orange, NJ.

Surviving besides her husband, Frederick S. Metzger, are two sons, Frederick C. Y2/c USNR and Kenneth; her mother, Mrs. Ellen Child of West Orange, NJ; one sister, Mrs. Byron Carpenter of Hemlock; a niece, Mrs. Gideon Harder, and nephew, Leon Carpenter.
