The Obituary of George R. Mather

George R. Mather, 77, died in Brandenton, Fla., Aug. 10. He was the youngest son of Gladys Richardson Mather and Olin G. Mather, born in Hemlock, Nov. 2, 1919.

He graduated from Hemlock High School and spent one year at Lima Wesleyan Seminary from where he was granted a basketball scholarship to Syracuse University. After 2 1/2 years he left college to persue a commission in the US Air Corp and instructed students in flying, in Texas. He finally returned to Syracuse to graduate in 1945.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley Tarbell Mather, married June 4, 1949, one son Jeffery Olin (Lillian) Mather in Brandenton, Fla., and one daughter, Pamela Mondschein, Wilmette Ill. and eight grandchildren.

He is predeceased by a daughter, Melinda Lea Chvatel who was killed in a private plane crash in Ariz. in 1993, leaving behind three teenagers. He also leaves two sisters, Olive M. Roome of Red Wing, Minn. and Beryl D. Mather of Rochester, as well as several nieces and nephews.
