Glenn Johnson of Springwater Builds Airplane

From the Genesee Express, 28 January 1937

Glenn Johnson, youthful Hemlock aviator, has constructed an airplane which he now has at the Dansville Municipal Airport. Johnson learned to fly under the direction of Major M. K. Riddick, and is now awaiting permission from the government to test the plane.

Glenn Johnson Seriously Hurt in Plane Crash

From the Livonia Gazette, 12 August 1937

The condition of Glenn Johnson, 26, of Springwater, who was critically injured in an airplane crash last Thursday evening, is thought to be slightly improved, though he is as yet only semi-conscious, the family stated yesterday. He is in the Wayland hospital, suffering from concussion of the brain, broken ankles and severe bruises.

Johnson was testing a new set of wings on his home-constructed monoplane which he made about six years ago. He had been in the air some thirty minutes, and when only 200 feet from the ground, it is said, the plane went into a spin and Johnson seemed unable to right it. The plane crashed into the ground on the landing field which he had constructed on his farm near Springwater.

The accident happened before the eyes of his wife, parents and several neighbors, who rescued him from the tangled wreckage and carried him to his home. Later he was taken to the Wayland hospital.
