Carrie A. Bortle and Lucius M. Doolittle of Canadice NY circa 1880. They were married on the __. Carrie was the first wife of Lucius, she died of consumption in 1886 at the age of 26 years.

Lucius was a teacher in Canadice and also became the town clerk.

The Obituary of Lucius M. Doolittle

18 November 1856 - 22 February 1921

From the Naples Record, 9 March 1921

Canadice - Lucius M. Doolittle, aged 64 years, died at his home in this place on 22 February 1921. He has been seriously ill for about three weeks, but the immediate cause of death was a shock which he had the Friday night previous.

Mr. Doolittle was born in Canadice, and had lived his entire life there. He was a grandson of Thomas Doolittle, one of the pioneers of the town.

In former days Mr. Doolittle held many positions of honor and trust in the church and community. He was Justice of the Peace at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Winch Doolittle; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Kingsley, of Victor; Mrs. Mary Paine, of this place, and Mrs. Martha Speiller, of Brooklyn, and eleven grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Doolittle, of Rochester; John Doolittle, of Ellicottville, and Thomas W. Doolittle, of Naples; four sisters, Mrs. Emily Norget, of Allens Hill; Mrs. Cleora Blake, of Naples; Mrs. Carrie West, of Lakeville, and Miss Zeruah Doolittle, of Rochester, at present in Florida. All the brothers and sisters were present at the funeral, except Miss Zeruah Doolittle.

The funeral services were held from the church on Thursday, February 24, 1921, at 2 p.m., Rev. G. C. Bucher, of Spencerport, a former pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Guy Overshire, the present pastor.

Burial was made in the family lot in Canadice cemetery. The floral pieces on the casket were many and beautiful.

A kind husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen, has left us.

Mr. Paine, of West Barre; Rev. E. W. Hargrave and wife of Charlotte; Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs, of Wayland; Edwin Doolittle and wife, of Springwater; George Deal and wife, of Allens Hill; Fred Kingsley and wife and Mrs. Truman Stevens, of Richmond; John Beam and wife and Miss Ester Andrus, of Hemlock, and Dr. Leigh Norget, of Henreitta, were some of the relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend Mr. Doolittle’s funeral.

Canadice NY - Mrs. Carrie Doolittle, wife of Lucius M. Doolittle, died on the 21st inst. She was a great sufferer with the dreadful disease, consumption. Her funeral was held at Springwater on the 23rd. The bereaved husband has the sympathy of the community in his great affliction.
